Motion to ban personalised number plates in Philippines
1st October 2007

A politician from the Philippines is looking to propose a ban on personalised number plates in the country.
Rufus Rodriguez proposed the act banning the issuance and use of low-numbered number plates on vehicles of government officials and employees.
Rodriguez said: "They roam the streets like members of royalty in heavily tinted vehicles sporting low-numbered plates, which smack of delusions of grandeur.
"Motorists are irked by their display of arrogance and it evoked a false impression that these favored few are exempted from traffic rules and regulations."
Rodriguez claimed there was no reason for government officials to be given this special privilege and stated that they should be at the forefront in observing road regulations as public servants.
