Number plates stolen from 11 cars in same street
10th August 2007

Police in Peterborough have warned residents to expect car cloning problems after number plates were stolen from eleven cars in the same street.
The vehicles were parked in Albany Walk in the Woodston area of Peterborough, and two of the vehicles had both their front and rear number plates taken on the night of Friday 3rd August.
The number plates are of no physical value, but police expect that they may be used for car cloning, where criminals affix the stolen number plates to cars intended to be used in petrol station drive-offs or to avoid speeding fines.
Community Safety Officer Carol Aston said: "This was unusual, with so many offences in one street on the same night, and I believe someone must have seen something or know who is doing this.
It does cause inconvenience for the victim. There is the cost of getting replacements and the stolen plate details will be registered on the police computer, meaning you could be stopped by officers and asked for identification".
