'Wheelie' motorcyclist without number plates is arrested
16th May 2007

For those of you who thought that removing your number plate made you safe from speed cameras and the police, think again.
The picture to the right shows 35-year-old Jason Jesty pulling a wheelie on his motorcycle at 61mph in a 30mph zone. Clever Jason believed he wouldn't be caught by the camera as he'd removed the number plates from the motorbike.
However, the photograph was circulated to the local traffic police who spotted Jesty just two weeks later. As they pulled him over, they watched in amazement as he tried to re-attach the registration plates to his bike.
A police source said: "That spot is well known for speeding bikers and officers had been monitoring the patch for some time. We managed to catch him from intelligence. He probably thought by removing his number plates he would never be caught, but he was wrong."
Jesty, of Burwell Drive, Witney, was arrested and sentenced at Oxford Crown Court this week.
