Losing £10,000 on private number plate 'not an issue' for Harry
17th July 2007

After the private number plates CEO 1 and CEO 2 were sold on a popular auction website recently, it has transpired that one rather unfortunate motorcyclist has potentially missed out on a £10,000 windfall.
Harry Thompson, of Cumbria, was the first owner of CEO 2, but says that missing out on a potentially huge profit is "not an issue".
The private number plate was withdrawn from sale when it failed to reach its reserve price. It had, however, achieved a top bid of £10,000, and is expected to go even higher when it goes back up for auction.
Mr Thompson got the plates when he bought a brand new motorbike from a dealership in Barrow in 1953. He said: "The plates came with a 250cc BSA c-10 motorcycle I bought aged 16. It was brand new and it had that number plate on it. I never thought much of it at the time, because back then CEO didn't have the meaning it has now."
Harry can think himself lucky, however, that he didn't receive the private number plates reading CEO 1, as he would have potentially lost out on the cool £154,000 hammer price it reached on the same auction site last week.
