Scottish drivers buy the most personalised plates
19th July 2007

Recent research conducted by insurance company Admiral found that Scottish drivers are the most enthusiastic in Britain about personalised plates.
Motorists in Aberdeen topped the poll with 7.4%. Surprisingly, eight of the top ten places were filled by Scottish locations - Falkirk, Kilmarnock, Dumfries, Motherwell, Perth, Inverness and Dundee.
Oddly, south-east London is bottom of the list with 2.6%, with central and east London also occupying positions towards the bottom of the list.
Admiral's managing director, Sue Longthorn, said: "I think the reason Aberdeen has come top for personalised plates is the fact that it's Europe's oil capital. There are a lot of wealthy people in the city and they want to display their wealth. More surprising, is just why the plates are so popular in the rest of Scotland."
Haulage contractors are most likely to have personalised plates (14.9%), followed by dental surgeons, shop proprietors and property developers. Oil rig workers come in at number ten, thanks to Aberdeen's influence in the oil market.
Personalised plates are most likely to be placed on a BMW M5 (34%), followed by the Mercedes CL-Class, Jaguar XK8, Jaguar XJ and Mercedes-Benz SL-Class.
