Anger over South African number plate blunder
23rd April 2007
Vehicle owners in Limpopo, South Africa, are understandably angry over recent confusion regarding the new series of number plates.
The new plates, with an L at the back, have been revealed as illegal. The plates also have not been approved by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). Also lacking a watermark, the number plates are open to theft and fraud.
Gary Ronald, manager of public affairs at the AA stated that the number plates in Limpopo have been changed seven times since 1994.
The new L-series number plates appeared in 2005 when Stan Motemele, previous MEC for transport announced that number plates containing the letter N (Northern Province) be changed to L (Limpopo).
