More number plate madness in Dubai
27th June 2007

As you may be aware, the world number plates record was broken last month when Talal Al Khoury bought the number '5' for £3.5million in Dubai.
Talal's enthusiasm for number plates didn't stop there, however. At an auction earlier this month, he splashed out a further £1.6million on '7' - now the second most expensive number plate in the world!
The auction, held on June 16th, also saw '66' sell for £465,000, '50' for £416,000, and '97 for £416,000. It's not clear if any other plates at this auction were purchased by Talal Al Khoury, but it seems that he certainly realises the true value of an excellent personalised number plate!
Despite this, the UK record stands at a comparatively paltry £331,500, which was achieved for 'M 1' at last year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
