Number plate theft leaves Dorset residents fuming
29th August 2007

Residents in Dorset were left angered upon awakening to find their car number plates had been stolen.
At least five vehicles were targeted in the Thomas Hardye Gardens area of Dorchester and it appears that they had all been deliberately removed.
Mark Adams, of Nonesuch Close had every number plate removed from his van and car, and said: "They weren't the sticky pad ones. They had caps and had been unscrewed. Obviously I don't think it would have been a child - they were taken off with a screwdriver."
He added: "The police thought criminals might have taken them to sell or put on vehicles used for crimes, and that's going to be the most annoying thing. They said I'm probably going to get lots of parking tickets or speeding fines from the plates being put on other vehicles, or problems caused by people using them actually in a crime."
The areas which were targeted included Nonesuch Close, Garland Crescent, and Diggory Crescent, and police said they were still receiving calls from residents whose plates had been stolen.
Anyone with any information which could aid the investigation should call PC Dave Blackman on 01305 222222.
