West Ham top the number plates league table
31st October 2007

West Ham may not have much to shout about on the football field, but as far as number plates go, they're a long way clear at the top of the table.
WE57 HAM sold at auction this week for £57,000 - a new record for a football plate. The previous record - £36,000 for AR53 NAL was set in 2004.
Damian Lawson, Marketing Manager at the DVLA, said: "The atmosphere in the auction room was electric - it was like a cup final. The fans bidding showed the same passion they do on the terraces and we could only watch as the price kept on rising and rising."
The football number plates league table reads very differently from that of the current Premiership table, with V1 LLA in third place at £35,000, ALB 10N in fourth with £19,000 and DER 8Y in fifth position on £14,500. The bottom half of the table is made up from S41 NTS (£11,500), PRE 570N (£9,400), 1 WBA (£8,400), W1 GAN (£7,700) and EVR 70N (£6,400).
