A woman in the American state of Colorado has found herself the subject of unexpected publicity due to her controversial private number plates. Authorities took exception to her ILVTOFU car registration, claiming that it could offend certain onlookers who might read it as a sexual reference. The lady owner, Ms Kelly Coffman-Lee, insisted that the "I love tofu" message was a reflection of her family's enthusiasm for the high-protein bean curd product.

Surely then, any smutty aspect must be in the eye of the beholder and, that being the case, there is evidently plenty of smut in the eyes of the Colorado Department of Revenue's Division of Motor Vehicles. The DMV has insisted that "FU" plates are not permitted due to the likely inference of sexual reference.

Ms Coffman-Lee's fame has even spread as far as the famous liberal news and comment website The Huffington Post.
