Create number plates the right way
It is not legal to create number plates that rely on non-standard character spacing or fonts. There are a number of regulations which must be followed in order to ensure that your registration is legal.
You must be the legal owner of the registration mark in order to have someone create number plates to display on your car. The lettering on the plates should be black on a white plate for the front and black on yellow at the rear. The lettering and spacing must also be of the regulation size and in the approved font number plates that are legal. You must not alter or misrepresent any of the letters or numbers.
You can obtain acyrlic number plates from a number of sources. Many number plate dealers will create number plates for you at an additional cost in order for you to be able to display your new registration number on your vehicle. However, if you do not wish to display your registration number on your car at this time, you can hold the number on a retention certificate at the cost of £80 per year. You can then transfer your registration number onto an acrylic plate at any time you like in order to display it on your vehicle.
