Cover for the brochure of the DVLA number plates auction dated the 2nd of November 2000. The auction was held at Ragley Hall in Alcester, Warwickshire.
There were plenty of high-value private number plates sold at this auction, including X5 BMW and V1 VEK, which were both given starting reserve prices of £3,000 and went on to sell for £15,500 and £17,500 respectively. Meanwhile, S4 MMY smashed its reserve price of £4,500 with a final price of £20,500 and CHR 15P sold for £16,000 (reserve price £3,200).
W1 NGS had been estimated to fetch £3,100, but finally went under the hammer at £30,000. Similarly, V1 CKY was estimated at £4,500 and sold for £33,500. 1 RAM and V1 LLA sold for £35,000 each after starting reserves of £3,300 and £3,500 respectively.
However, the biggest seller at this auction was A5 TON, which sold for £61,000 - over twenty times its estimate of £3,000.
