The 300-page full-colour hardback book contains stories about what number plates mean to people who have bought them, as well as celebrity stories and a concise history of the British registration system.

Cover for the brochure of the DVLA number plates auction dated the 23rd of November 1997. The auction was held at SECC Glasgow in Scotland.
1 AJG, 1 BNS, 1 WGS and 1 MRC were estimated at £4,200, and with slightly higher valuations of £4,300 were 1 ASG, 1 PLP and 1 PKH. 1 WCM, and 1 TKS were valued at £4,400.
With estimates of £4,500 were 1 TJK and 1 KDM, whilst WJC 1 was expected to raise £4,600. LGM 1 and 1 SBM, meanwhile, were valued at £4,800 - slightly less than NSS 1 at £4,900 and 1 SLA at £5,000.
The two most valuable number plates were 1 PDM and 4 DM at £5,500 each.
