Personalised registration plates
Although the UK boasts a high popularity of personalised registration plates, one must not forget that every country has its own number plate system. Autonumerologists are constantly fascinated at the range of vehicle registration numbers available in different countries.
Take Belgium, for example. Belgian personalised registration plates are driver specific. If a Belgian driver trades their old vehicle in for a newer model, they keep their original number plate. Equally quirky, is the legislation stating that the rear number plate is supplied by the state, whilst the front number plate is supplied by the owner.
In Germany, motorists are required to buy new personalised registration plates whenever they change their main place of residence. Meanwhile, vehicles in Hong Kong have their personalised registration plates supplied by the garages, and not by the government.
In the UK, as with many other countries, number plates are made of a reflective material. In India, however, motorists are required to fit a light to their personalised registration plates in order for them to be visible at night.
