Stanford Hall Rally
This summer the club held its rally for the second year at popular Stanford Hall in Leicestershire on Sunday 22 June and held a celebratory dinner the previous evening at the Denbigh Arms Hotel in nearby Lutterworth.
The evening function had twenty four members and guests enjoying fine hospitality. Good food and wine with an excellent mix of company is always a recipe for success and this event was no exception. An informal affair, the dinner was a great starter to the weekend which was about having fun and in which everyone joined in with enthusiasm.
The following morning dawned fine, bright and warm and the rally site at Stanford Hall, which had been prepared the day before, soon began to fill up with vehicles, many having driven considerable distances to be there. Picnic baskets bursting with goodies were soon opened and the sound of chinking glasses filled the air as members relaxed in the warm sunshine. We had been fortunate enough to arrange sponsorship for various rally costs from two of our dealer members and from a local building company and this helped with the not inconsiderable expense of putting on an event such as this.
We also had several quality raffle prizes donated and managed to raise more funds from this source. As usual entrants had been split up into various classes such as No.1’s, names, initials, amusing, pairs, classics etc. and a self-voting system was in operation to ensure there was no favouritism.
Prizes were awarded in the various classes during the afternoon in the fine weather which just about managed to hold on, despite threatening storm clouds, until the end of the day.
It was pleasing to see many long-standing members attending along with several new ones rallying for their first time. The venue reported that over 120 people had passed through the gate on the day and we are grateful to our small army of helpers for their assistance.
Our presence at the earlier CNDA rally at Woburn generated much interest in the RNC and we are pleased to have recruited many more new members as a result.
Several interested visitors came to both rallies and took away literature: we hope this will lead to a further increase in membership in due course.
In 2004 the RNC rally will more than likely move its venue - possibly further west or maybe back to Yorkshire - a decision has yet to be made so watch this space for more information.
