Registration Numbers Club
A Word of Warning
The club was originally founded in 1977 at a time of crisis for cherished number owners. Staff at the then DVLC in Swansea had gone on strike over the transfer of numbers leading to severe problems for people wishing to make transfers and hundreds, if not thousands, of plates being lost forever. The RNC, which at that time had around 2000 members, had a strong voice and lobbied Parliament and many other organisations, eventually leading to the transfer system being reinstated albeit with some new regulations built in to prevent fraud.
Today, of course, transfers are normally handled with great efficiency and speed and there are relatively few problems. One word of warning though ... unless you have a vehicle to transfer your cherished number to, it is essential when selling the vehicle to transfer its cherished number onto a retention certificate and obtain a replacement number before the sale. Failure to do this could lead to your cherished plate ending up belonging to the purchaser of your vehicle. Your numbers dealer can help you with this if you are unsure what to do.
Much useful information covering cherished plates can also be found in the RNC quarterly newsletter which is the original independent club publication and is available free to subscribing members.
For 2004 the RNC will hold its annual rally in the South Lake district on 27 June 2004 members will gather at Holker Hall near Grange-over-Sands and, as usual, entrants will be split up into various classes such as No.1’s, names, initials, amusing, pairs, classics etc. and a self voting system will operate with prizes awarded in the various classes
