Fantastic Fireworks' celebrations guaranteed to go with a bang!
By Ruby Speechley
“The guy was so pleased that he sent me several boxes of fireworks which I saved for our New Year’s Eve party. It was an amazing success. People kept coming up to me and saying ‘what a fantastic show’. That’s when I thought there had to be a market for selling fireworks outside of Bonfire Night. That night the name Fantastic Fireworks was born.”
Jon started selling unusual fireworks by mail order. By his second year in business, customers were asking if he could run displays for them. He soon realised that staff and premises would be needed, as well as a big decision – fireworks or football journalism. His passion for fireworks won over.
“I registered Fantastic Fireworks as a limited company in 1985. At the time there were no more than a dozen firework companies in the whole of the UK. That figure has grown to over 200 since then, but Fantastic Fireworks can truly claim to have set the fashion.”
Fantastic Fireworks supply many of the highest profile occasions across the country, including the Millennium celebrations, Big Brother Finale and more recently ITV’s 50 th anniversary. For their public displays, almost anything goes: rooftops, rivers and waterfronts, sports stadiums, city centres and historic houses. Hampton Court, Cannes Film festival, the arch of London’s new Wembley Stadium and Catherine Palace, near St Petersburg in Russia, are just a few of the prestigious venues that have used their services. And they have a celebrity client list to match: Rowan Atkinson, Philip Schofield, Tommy Steele, Vinny Jones, Germaine Greer and Thierry Henry.
Amongst their specialist services, is choreographed firework spectaculars to movie themes such as War of the Worlds and Ghostbusters. And if you’re looking to propose on Valentine’s Day, why not pop the question ‘Marry me?’ in glittering fireworks, at a mere £80? And assuming she says yes, don’t forget to book your wedding firework display, which is another of Fantastic Fireworks’ specialities.
