Plates for kids!

So, you’ve bought them a games console, a bike, a skateboard, and a guitar, but this year you want to buy them something different, right? Something that will last them into adulthood or long after you’re gone. Well, you’re not alone. At one time or other we’re all trying to find a special gift for our children, whatever their age. Imagine how your son or daughter would feel waking up on their birthday to a set of their very own personalised number plates.

Zoë Beresford from Cheshire knew from an early age that her parents planned to buy her a car for her seventeenth birthday, but with the proviso that she never started smoking. True to their word, when she turned seventeen, they bought her a brand new VW Beetle. The surprise for Zoë was that she could also have a personal plate to go with it.

“We gave her a choice,” explained Mr. Beresford, “she could have any of the new style plates because the letter ‘Z’ is now included. ME51 ZOE, PO51 ZOE, LA51 ZOE and DO51 ZOE were all available. She agreed that she was more of a dozy Zoë than anything else, so it had to be that one! She is thrilled with the plates, and we all agree that they enhance the look of a great car.”

Cherie Blair is said to have decorated youngest son Leo’s Lamborghini shaped bed with the Downing Street number LEO 10. But it’s not unusual to see a child-sized car with it’s own miniature plate. For example, Liberty Peek, aged four, has the number L16 ETY on her Barbie 4X4. “She is getting a bit big for her play car and it’ll be a while before she can use the real plate!” said mum Michelle, “it’s on my car for now.”

Many parents simply stumble on the idea of buying a plate for their child. Trout Lake owners, Stuart and Teresa Taylor from Gloucester were originally looking for a plate for themselves, but ended up buying one for their son. “Whilst we were searching, we saw 920 FRT, so we decided to buy it for Otis’s 21 st birthday. The only thing is, he’s not 21 for another 18 years - he is only three!” said dad, Stuart.
