Number plates in Albania are very similar to their European counterparts. The plates are white with black lettering and the Albanian flag on the left hand side on a red background with the letters 'AL' below the flag in white. The format of the car registration is LL NNNN L, where L is a letter and N is a number. The first two letters identify the area the vehicle was registered in. For example if the first two letters were 'TR', this would denote that the vehicle had been registered in the Tirana region of Albania.
