The current Brazilian number plate system was created in 1990, using
the format ABC-1234. Number plates cannot be transferred
between vehicles in Brazil.
The front and rear number plates use the same colour scheme, with private-owned
plates being black on grey, buses and taxis are white
on red, learning vehicles in red on white, official
government vehicles in black on white, vintage vehicles
in grey on black, dealer cars in white on green, and
diplomatic number plates in white on blue.
The letters on Brazilian number plates relate to the issuing state,
and number plates can be moved between states freely.
