Located in the Northern part of central Africa, Chad is a landlocked country surrounded by Libya, Sudan, Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger and the Central African Republic. The land mass is very arid as it’s close to the Sahara Desert.

The current series of number plates are black with silver lettering and has been the same from 1983 onwards. The first three letters identify the region where the vehicle was first registered. For vehicles that haven’t been registered, they are issued with red number plates. This applies to imported vehicles too.
