As the Republic was only established in 1993, Czech number plates have not differed greatly over the years. There are currently two legal systems of number plates in the Czech Republic, with the new system being introduced in 2001. The first letter is the regional identifer, followed by a combination of letters or numbers. In 2004, the blue strip with the European Union emblem and country code CZ was added.
