Located on the western coast of Central America, El Salvador is surrounded by Honduras and Guatemala.
The current series of car registrations in El Salvador came into effect in 2000, and depicts the country shape in the background in a blue colour. The number plates themselves are white with black lettering. On top of the plate is written ‘El Salvador’ and on the top right is the year of registration. At the bottom of the plate is written ‘Centro America’. The format of the registration itself is LDDD DDD, with L being a letter and D being a digit.
The previous series of vehicle registrations were turquoise in colour with white lettering. They came into effect in 1988. The very first series was introduced in 1956 and the number plates then were red.
