Located in Eastern Europe, Estonia is surrounded by Latvia and Russia.
The current series of car registrations in Estonia came into effect in 2004. They look similar to other EU number plates, as they have to adhere to the EU legislation. The plates are white with black lettering and have an EU emblem on a blue background on the left hand side of the plate, with ‘EST’ written in white under the EU emblem.
The previous series came into effect in 1991 and was replaced in 2004. They looked similar to the current series in shape, size and lettering. However they didn’t have any emblem or flag on them. Prior to that Estonia was a part of the former USSR, hence had soviet number plates.
