Number Plates From France

The current French number plate system, which expires in 2008, consists of three or four numbers, followed by two or three letters, followed by two or three numbers.

If a vehicle owner relocated permanently to another area, they must re-register their car. Annual car tax is no longer enforced in France, and now only applies to corporate vehicles.

The new number plate system will consist of two letters, three numbers, and two letters. There will be no regional identifier as in the previous system, but a sequential number will be used. The number plate will be allocated to the car, and will not change even if the car is sold of the owner moves to another region.
