Greek number plates consist of three letters and four digits. The letters
act as a regional identifier, and the numbers are issued
sequentially.
All districts and regions are identified by the first two letters, with
the exception of Thessaloniki and Athens. The third
letter is usually issued sequentially. For example,
in Patras, AX denotes the district. When the registration
system reaches AXA-9999, it reverts to AXB-1000. When
AXB-9999 is reached, the system reverts to AXC-1000
and so on.
The only letters used are A, B, E, Z, H, I, K, M, N, O, P, T, Y, and
X.
