Number of vehicles: cars 32,000 (1989), trucks and buses 21,000 (1989)
Located in the Caribbean sea, Haiti is part of the Hispaniola island. It’s neighbour on the island is the Dominican Republic.
The current series of car registrations in Haiti was introduced in 1999, with red lettering and a red border being used on white number plates. The word ‘HAITI’ is written on top of the plate and ‘Prive’ at the bottom. Between the letter and the digit is the country emblem. The format of the registration is L NNNN, with L standing for a letter and N standing for a number.
The previous series of vehicle registrations that ran from 1993 to 1998 had blue characters with ‘HAITI’ written vertically down the right hand side of the plate. There was no country emblem on this series, however the format of the registration number was the same. The series prior to this ran from 1989 to 1992 and was on yellow number plates with black lettering. The series that ran from 1978 – 1980 was similar to the current series in that it had red lettering and a red border on a white number plate.
