Hungarian number plates are printed in a black font on a white background,
consisting of a three-letter combination followed by
a three-number combination. Number plates issued prior
to May 2004 displayed the Hungarian flag above the
country code 'H', and number plates issued since this
date use the European Union emblem above the country
code.
Diplomatic number plates use white lettering on a blue background, and
consist of the letters 'DT' followed by four digits.
Police vehicles use 'RB' in a similar sequence.
Hungarian number plates give no clue as to the date or place of issue.
However, this information is naturally included in
the car registration documents. However, as the numbers
are sequential, it is possible to be able to guess
within an accuracy of three to six months, the age
of a vehicle on which the number plate is displayed.
