Icelandic number plates consist of two letters followed by three digits, and contain a space for inspection stickers to be placed.

Personal and passenger vehicles use white number plates with blue letters and digits, whilst foreign diplomats and ambassadors use blue number plates with white letters and digits.

New or unregistered vehicles have red number plates with black lettering, and buses and commercial vehicles use yellow number plates with black lettering.

Vintage cars are entitled to use older number plates, consisting of one letter and between one and five digits.
