Located in the southern part of Eastern Europe, Moldova is bordered by Romania and Ukraine.
The current series of car registrations in Moldova came into effect in 1993, when the country broke off from the former USSR. The number plate itself looks similar to other EU countries apart from the fact that the Moldova flag replaces the EU one on the left hand side of the number plate. The format of the registration is LL LL NNN, with L being a letter and N a number. Government cars have the letter ‘P’ in place of the second two letters on normal vehicles. Police cars have ‘CPOL’ replacing the first two sets of letters, while the army has ‘FA’ to replace them on their number plates.
