Located in central America, Nicaragua is bordered by Honduras and Costa Rica.
The current series of car registrations in Nicaragua came into effect in 2005. The number plates are white with the shape of the country in the background in blue. The lettering is in black with ‘NICARAGUA’ displayed on the top of the plate and ‘CENTRO AMERICA’ displayed at the bottom. The format of the registration is L DDD DDD, with L being a letter and D a digit.
The 1986 to 1993 series of vehicle registrations had maroon lettering and a maroon border on a white number plate. The 1955 series had white lettering on a navy blue plate. The first series of car registrations was released in 1938, and the number plates were red with white lettering.
