Western Samoa is located in the South West Pacific Ocean and consists of two large islands, Upolu and Savaii as well as a number of smaller islands.
The current series of car registrations in Samoa came into effect in 2000. The country name is displayed on the top of the number plate, with the registration itself being a four-digit number. At the bottom of the plate, the text ‘Penina ole Pasefika’ is displayed. The plate itself is white with the registration number being displayed in blue. The other text on the plate is displayed in red. The previous series of vehicle registrations, which ran from 1979 to 2000, had black lettering on a green number plate. The first number plates in Samoa came into effect in 1957 and the number plates then were also green, but with white lettering.
