Spanish number plates follow a system of four digits followed by three
letters, excepting vowels. The lettering system moves
from BBB to DZZ, FBB to HZZ, JBB to NZZ, PBB to PZZ,
RBB to TZZ, and VBB to ZZZ. Numbers are sequential
from 0000 to 999. Using this system, there is no regional
identifier, but the lettering sequence can give some
indication as to when the vehicle was registered.
The physical number plates consist of a black font on a white background,
incorporating the European blue bar on the left-hand-side,
using the country code 'E'. This is compulsory on the
new Spanish car registrations system.
