Number plates in Sudan have Arabic lettering with the format of the plate essentially staying the same from the 1950s through to the 1980s. The car registrations were black with white lettering. The new series of number plates released in the 1980s had a slightly different design, with the right side of the plate having a background that signified the area the vehicle was registered in.
