Located in the middle-east, Syria is surrounded by Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel and Turkey.
Car registrations in Syria have always had two distinct divisions between the English characters and the Arabic characters. The English characters would either be on the left hand side or at the bottom of the number plate, while the Arabic characters would go on the right hand side or on top. All number plates display ‘SYR’ in both English and Arabic. Standard plates are yellow with black characters, while diplomatic plates are white. Government motorcycle plates are black with a pink border and pink characters. The first series of plates introduced in the 1950’s were black with white characters.
