Turkish car registrations are rectangular in shape and are manufactured
from aluminium. The plates consist of black text on
a white background for private vehicles, and white
text on a black background for official vehicles.
The numbering system will always follow one of the following formats:
99 X 9999 / 99 X 99999
99 XX 999 / 99 XX 9999
99 XXX 99 / 99 XXX 999
The initial two digits are a number relating to the main residence
of the vehicle's owner. In some areas of Turkey, the
numbering system is categorised into groups relating
to the tax office or issuing authority of the registrations.
Two number plates must be displayed on every vehicle in Turkey -
one on the front and one on the rear. Turkish number
plates also carry the blue EU bar and use the country
code 'TR'.
