The current series of car registrations in Uzbekistan was introduced in 2002, which replaces the previous series that had been used since 1991. Prior to 1991 Uzbekistan was a part of the former USSR, hence had Soviet number plates. The current series has the flag on the right hand side of the plate and is similar to the previous series with the fact that the number plates are white with a black border and black characters.
