- The earliest known celebrity car registration number was T 8, owned by Harry Tate, a music hall artist. The plate is currently owned by Johnny Tate of the Tate & Lyle sugar company.
- Cherie Blair is reported to have purchased LEO 10 for their son Leo, which is displayed on his Lamborghini-shaped bed.
- The plate J1 HAD was banned as soon as J registrations came out in 1991, as it spells Jihad, the Muslim name for a holy war.
- Robbie Williams purchased the car registration number S8 RRY for his new Ferrari, to say 'sorry' to his fans for spending so much money on a new car.
- B1 LKO was bought by a fan of the TV series at auction.
- The ban on transferring car registration numbers from motorbikes and mopeds to cars was only lifted as recently as October 2001.
- 1 A fetched £160,000 at auction in 1989. If it came up for auction again, it could well break the current world record of £331,500.
